I’m not going to sugar-coat it: the last time I tried to do a life updates post, I failed miserably at it. Not only was it short and awkward (and combined with a blog report, which is a regrettable mistake), but it didn’t really share anything that you wouldn’t have already known about me by following along on Instagram or the blog. Truth be told, learning more about my blogging friends outside of their social media accounts is why I fell in love with the whole “Life Updates” trend in the first place, so I decided to give it another go…the RIGHT WAY this time! Hopefully it works out, because these are some of my favorite posts to read, and I’m hoping they’ll become something that I love to write, as well!
Traveling to England
If you follow along on Instagram, then you know that I traveled to England over the winter break! This was an absolutely amazing experience because I haven’t traveled to England in what feels like forever, and I loved visiting my family for the holidays. Not only did I get to experience Christmas and New Year’s there, but I also got to do quite a bit of traveling, including London, Wales, Cadbury World, and 4 different castles! I’m working on having some travel guides up on the blog in the next view weeks, along with a travel diary, so I can talk more in-depth about my trip.
Starting a New Semester of College
I started my Spring semester of college a few weeks ago, just two days after arriving back in the States. Luckily it only took me a day to get over the jetlag on the way back, even though it did leave me feeling rather exhausted and with a headache. Still, I’d take one day of that rather than the week-long jetlag I experienced on the way there; I was constantly feeling tired, no matter how much sleep I got!
Originally, I was signed up for 18 credit hours this semester, but a week before the start of classes I dropped a class, leaving me at 15 hours. I’m so thankful that I did because my semester has already been so busy without that extra class, since my two gen ed courses have a lot of reading materials and my interior design courses a lot of homework and drafting/rendering to do. However, I recently found out that I received English credit for a portfolio that I turned in last semester, meaning that I earned 3 hours of credit and no longer need to take the course, which I’m super-thankful for.
Celebrating My Blogiversary
I celebrated my blogiversary on January 17th, which means that the blog is officially 1 year old! I can’t decide if it feels like I just started this blog or if it feels like forever ago, but I’m glad for all of the opportunities and experiences it has brought me. It’s been through a name change, hosting change, and a re-branding, but it’s taught me so much about myself and about the blogging community. I wrote an entire post about my blogiversary that you can read by clicking here, but it doesn’t focus so much on the changes that happened on the blog over the past year as much as my journey; it was by far one of my favorite posts to write, though.
I’ve cut out doing blog reports for now (they were more trouble and time-consuming than they were worth, and very few people read them), but I love being able to look over my progress over the months. Because of that, I thought I’d throw this small section in, just to see how it goes.
First and foremost, I changed my blog logo AND post designs in January. Pinpointing my branding has been a major focal point for me the past few months, and I’m so glad with the results so far. The re-designed pins have gotten so much more engagement on Pinterest than my old designs did, and my new logo looks a lot better than the old one. My next goal is to finish re-designing the rest of my post’s pins, as well as their social media graphics.
I’m also hoping to start a newsletter soon. This has been on my to-do list for MONTHS, but I’ve kept it on the back burner because of other priorities. I think this is the month that I will *finally* get it up and running, though! If you have any tips or advice for me, I would love to hear them!
That just about wraps up my first life updates post, but if you have any questions (or tips on what else you’d like to hear about), just let me know down below!
